Based on conversations and meetings with a local Cherokee chief, Cherokee Morning depicts the early morning giving of thanks to the Creator. At times, water was lifted up in a turtle shell or occasionally incense would be burned in a bowl made from the Carolina clay. The smoke represented the prayers that ascended to the sky.
